The DC area also boasts beautiful historic homes open for tours. This month’s feature is The President Woodrow Wilson House. Washington’s only presidential museum, this 1915 Georgian Revival home in Kalorama offers an intimate look at one of America’s greatest Presidents, statesman and Nobel Prize winner. President and Mrs. Wilson moved there in 1921 after leaving the White House. The house showcases a marble entryway and grand staircase, Palladian window, book-lined study, dumb waiter and butler’s pantry, and solarium overlooking the formal garden. Mrs. Wilson bequeathed the home and its furnishings to the National Trust for Historic Preservation upon her death in 1961.
