I believe understanding a client's needs combined with firsthand knowledge of the local market is paramount to facilitating transactions that buyers and sellers feel confidant about. Having lived in Alexandria for more than 30 years, I know the area and its neighborhoods and I am excited to use this knowledge to help my clients find the home of their dreams or sell their current property for the best price possible. My interest in real estate was sparked at the age of 23 when I purchased my first home and learned what a powerful investment tool it could be. My experiences buying and selling my own properties, combined with observing several friends and colleagues navigate the challenging process of buying their first home, led me to obtain my real estate license in order to assist others. People say you should do what you love, and I truly enjoy using my knowledge to help people with what can be an emotional experience, whether it is for the first or fifth time. As a former teacher and counselor, I have excellent listening and negotiating skills, enjoy creative problem solving, and appreciate the importance of time management. I also have an appreciation for interior design which allows me to see beyond the surface to the true potential of a home.
Growing up, my father was an army officer and we moved frequently before he retired from the military and settled in Northern Virginia. I grew up in the Fort Hunt neighborhood and attended James Madison University where I obtained a degree in Psychology. Upon graduation, I moved to Italy for a year to teach at an international school. After returning home I began working for Fairfax County Public Schools and obtained my Masters in Education at George Mason University. I enjoyed the rewarding career of working with at-risk youth for eleven years as a teacher and counselor at both the elementary and high school levels. My experiences working in the education system taught me a great deal about the importance of networking and working in a supportive environment. I understand what a difficult transition moving somewhere new can be and how helpful it is to know someone who is familiar with the area. Northern Virginia is known for it's school systems, beautiful neighborhoods, and myriad cultural offerings, and I am happy to be able to share this information with clients who may be new to the area. I am thrilled to be working at McEnearney and utilizing the valuable resources it has to offer.
When I am not working, I enjoy family time with my husband, whom I met in Italy, and our three children. We enjoy local family adventures to museums, parks, and shows in the area and appreciate good food (since my husband is a former chef). I also strongly believe in the importance of giving back to the local schools and community. I am excited to find a real estate firm that shares these values in McEnearney Associates.
