Description

The historic Colonial property of 555 S. Washington Street was originally built in the early 1700’s and started out as a simple farmhouse. In the 1790’s it became a social club and meeting hall frequented by our first President, George Washington, and his close friend, George Mason, Father of The Bill of Rights. Imagine the prestigious historical figures and ideas that could have come about in these walls! Around this same time, the main portion of the home was relocated from Broomilaw Point just east of Washington Street near Hunting Creek to its current location. In 1793, the property was purchased by a Mr. Thomas White, chief clerk for Robert E. Lee during the Civil War, and remained in his family for over 125 years. During their ownership many expansions were done and it is rumored that the handrail in the main house is made from a cherry tree that was cut from the front yard. In 1925 the home was sold and eventually made into the Old Club Restaurant which first opened its doors in the 1940’s and stayed serving Alexandria until the 1980’s when it closed for good. However in 2004, a developer had the brilliant idea to convert the building into a boutique luxury condo building and completed the project in 2008. Today, the building offers a unique and special living space in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria, full of charm, history and every convenience for modern living.

King Street Metro

The King Street Metro community is located at the bottom of Shooter’s Hill, between the Braddock Road Metro station and the Eisenhower Avenue Station. Until 1991, when the Blue Line was expanded to Van Dorn Street, only the Yellow Line served the community. Today, the King Street Metro community is accessible on both the Blue and Yellow Lines.

Quality of Life:

The King Street Metro community is predominantly composed of commercial office buildings and several mid to high-rise apartment complexes. There are older townhouses along Harvard and Peyton Streets, and a mix of old and new townhouses on West and Prince Streets.

King Street Metro means convenience. Without saying too much, residents in the King Street Metro community have unprecedented access to metro rail. King Street is seconds away, as well as its numerous restaurants. Take a walk down towards the heart of Old Town for a visit to The Old Town Theatre or The Lyceum. Stop by the Butcher’s Block for fresh meats and The Fromagerie for cheese. Whole Foods is right around the corner.

Getting Around:

Forgive us for repeating ourselves. From the King Street Metro community one can easily find their way to the King Street Metro station. The streets of Old Town are easily navigable by car. I-495 is less than five minutes away. Head north on the G.W. Parkway for a ten-minute drive to D.C. Two Metro stops to Reagan National Airport.

Airports:

Ronald Reagan National Airport:  < 6 miles.
Washington-Dulles International Airport:  < 30 miles.
Baltimore-Washington International Airport:  < 45 miles.
