Sterling is located approximately 45 miles west of Washington, D.C. on Leesburg Pike. It shares an agrarian history with the other communities in Loudoun. Up until the 1960's Sterling was defined by large farms and expansive tracts of land. It has been dramatically redeveloped and is a hub in Virginia’s technology corridor.

Sterling is a suburban, commuter city and “bedroom community” of the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area. Sterling residents enjoy shopping at nearby Dulles Town Center. Dulles Airport is minutes away. There are several golf courses and Claude Moore Park offers a variety of activities for people of all ages.
Residents can take advantage of the OmniRide services to and from Tysons Corner and the West Falls Church Metro. The Silver Line metro should arrive by 2016. For those driving, the main thoroughfares are the Dulles Greenway, Route 7 and Route 28.
