Purcellville

Purcellville is located about an hour west of Washington, D.C. It was settled by Quakers in the late 18th century. Like Middleburg and other communities in Loudoun County, Purcellville was a halfway point for those traveling between D.C. and Winchester.

Purcellville experienced a boom in trade in the late 1800's with the arrival of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad. By the 20th century, the valley was one of the biggest dairy farming and orchard grass producers in the nation.

Quality of Life:

Sometimes, a local says it best:

“As a ten year resident of Purcellville, there isn't a day that goes by where I don't feel lucky to live here. Purcellville is one big neighborhood where time is made to get one's life rooted and nurtured.  Folks want to know you.

Mail order chicks can be found chirping in the back room at the post office. Neighbors venture over in the spring to share the latest gardening tips and where to find the best prices for perennials. Reunions are held in conjunction with the annual Heritage Day that the Purcellville Preservation Association holds every May as a town-wide old-fashioned country fair at the historic Fireman's Field.

Roots run deep in Purcellville and so many care a great deal for the quality of life, making a point to share their lives and help make everyone's better by just being connected.”

- Meredith Thomas, President, Purcellville Preservation Association
