Purcellville

Purcellville is located about an hour west of Washington, D.C. It was settled by Quakers in the late 18th century. Like Middleburg and other communities in Loudoun County, Purcellville was a halfway point for those traveling between D.C. and Winchester.

Purcellville experienced a boom in trade in the late 1800's with the arrival of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad. By the 20th century, the valley was one of the biggest dairy farming and orchard grass producers in the nation.
