Description

Storybook Charm Meets Classic Elegance! Welcome to this rarely available opportunity to own a classic Tudor style colonial on one of the very prettiest blocks in the wildly popular Shepherd Park neighborhood in iconic ~Upper Northwest~ Washington, DC .Charming doesn~t begin to say it - all the style, details, and craftsmanship that characterize the beauty and balance of the heyday of classic ~pre-war~ architecture, with loads of 21st century updates and conveniences including a newer eat-in kitchen, renovated baths, nicely finished lower level guest / play space, bath and laundry, and a usable 3rd floor play room or office, ready for imagination. Three very generous bedrooms upstairs, spacious formal living and dining rooms - perfect for large gatherings - and a main floor den / TV room provide versatility; timeless hardwood floors, beautiful woodwork, and architecturally relevant replacement windows complete the picture inside. Sited with commanding pride of place on a block straight out of Norman Rockwell, the home features a remarkably private fenced back garden with a substantial hardscaping of a well crafted slate patio and garden walls, perfect for summer entertaining, and a convenient detached garage right behind the kitchen door. All this, with the convenience of Shepherd Park, a real community where neighbors know neighbors and have for generations. Located adjacent Rock Creek Park, multiple playgrounds, two of the best commuting corridors in the DMV, proximate to the Silver Spring Metro, and an easy ~reverse commute~ drive out to 1495 and beyond - whether you~re headed into town for work or an evening in Logan, or up to Chevy Chase / Bethesda / Silver Spring for shopping or to head out of town, you~ll know you found just the right place to begin the journey~Welcome Home.

Shepherd Park

Shepherd Park was named after Alexander Robey Shepherd, who was the governor of D.C. from 1874-1875. Shepherd moved to the neighborhood in 1868 and built a Second Empire-style Victorian home on the corner of what is now Geranium Street and 13th Street. He also owned a plant nursery in the District where he planted over 60,000 trees and plants; many of the wild flowers that he planted still pop up every year in the yards of Shepherd Park residents.  Because of his love for gardening, the streets within Shepherd Park are primarily named after flowers.

Quality of Life:

Shepherd Park is a residential neighborhood bounded by Eastern Avenue, Walter Reed Hospital, Georgia Avenue and 16th Street. The closeness to Rock Creek Park makes Shepherd Park a friendly shaded neighborhood with Colonial, Bungalow and Farmhouse style architecture.

Shepherd Park has one of the most active citizen’s associations in the District that has been around since the 1950s and continues to sponsor several community events each year.

Getting Around:

Shepherd Park is close to Silver Spring and Takoma Park Metro stations, both offering red line service. Metro buses also frequent the area in downtown Silver Spring and throughout the Shepherd Park community for easy access to the city.

Ronald Reagan National Airport:  < 10 miles
Washington-Dulles International Airport:  < 30 miles
