Burke

A village-like community with deep agrarian roots, Burke takes its name from Silas Burke, a 19th century farmer, merchant and politician. Like many Virginian entrepreneurs, Burke found the area reputable for two reasons:

1) There was an abundance of fertile land.

2) He could build a house on top of a hill.

The house that Burke built still stands today and is open to the public. The property overlooks Pohick Creek, which also bears some historical significance. The moniker “Pohick” refers to the Pohick Native Americans who occupied the area during pre-colonial and colonial times.
