Laurel

Laurel is a city that occupies the northern tip of Prince George’s County along the fall line of the Patuxent River. It includes four unincorporated areas: West Laurel, North Laurel, Maryland City and South Laurel. The city was the site of a number of a large cotton mills during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The construction of the Capital Subdivision rail line, which ran from Baltimore to Washington, coincided with Laurel’s development.

Quality of Life:

Laurel is a mixed-use community that features a number of commercial and residential developments. Its historic district, located on the Patuxent River, is the site of a number of older homes that reflect the city’s agricultural and industrial past. Route 1 runs north to south. I-95 and the Baltimore Washington Parkway bind the community on the west and east respectively. Route 198 runs east to west through Laurel.
