Brookland/Catholic University

Like many other DC neighborhoods, Brookland’s growth was spurred by the arrival of a major transportation line. In this case the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ran its Western Branch Line through Brookland in the 1870s. The main residence at the time was the Brooks Mansion, which was home to Colonel Jeheil Brooks and from which the community takes its name.
